Assessment in teaching English as a foreign language

The aim of the course is to develop and monitor students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as language components (vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar) while focusing on instruments for evaluation of students’ progress. It will look at the main features of evaluation instruments, techniques for developing quizzes and tests for all skills, as well as creating integrative tests. Students will be introduced to ways of developing criteria and band scales for assessment and giving feedback, while being acquainted with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages band scale for linguistic and intercultural competencies. The course will create opportunities for students to use the European Language Portfolio as a self-monitoring and/or self-assessment instrument.
