Italian Literature 7: Drama and Theatre

The course examines the differentia specifica of the dramatic texts. It includes an overview of the Italian dramatic tradition, stressing the characteristics of the Modern drama and theatre. It covers the major authors starting from the passage from 19th to 20th century: Verga and D’Annunzio. The Futuristic drama and theatre, and the dramatic texts of Bontempelli. Theatre within the theatre in the works of Luigi Pirandello. The comedy in the second half of the 20th century: Eduardo de Filippo and Dario Fo.
