During the course the strategies required for successful English language learning will be defined and classified. Relevant theories and models of learning foreign languages will be reviewed from the point of view of learning strategies. Relevant research in the area will be scrutinised and direct and indirect learning strategies, as related to language skills, will be outlined. The course will then go on to outline the methods and techniques used to research learning strategies, suggesting how those research findings could inform the practice of teaching English. It will conclude by looking at the principles of preparing training sessions to equip teachers to use learning strategies effectively.
