The Poetics of Imaginary and Myth

The course examines the mechanisms of the symbolic imagination. Theories of the imaginary and its basic structures: Schema, Archetype, symbol, myth. The magic as an anthropological category. Myth as narration/ verbal construction of the imaginary. Theory of myth and comparative mythology. Comparative study of mythic “themes”, figures and other constellations and their classification: mythic time and space, cosmogonies, eschatology, rites of passage, heroic myths, cultural myths, vegetative myths, “the god who dies and resurrects” etc. Myth, ritual, cult: theories and practices. Symbols, images, objects.
